NBA 2K24 Modding Sections Launched, Season 1 Details

NBA 2K24 Modding Sections Launched, Season 1 Details

With the imminent release of NBA 2K24, the community is gearing up for another year of modding the PC version! To that end, I’ve created new categories for NBA 2K24 in our Downloads database, as well as the usual Modding and Tutorials & FAQs sections for the game in the Forum.

You can find those Forum sections and Downloads categories, as well as our other key NBA 2K24 resources, at the links below:

As always, we encourage the use of our upload facilities, so that we can preserve mods and tools for years to come. Please note that members of the Contributors group can immediately create topics in our Tutorials & FAQs section; otherwise, feel free to post them in the Modding section, and we’ll move your resource to Tutorials & FAQs as soon as possible. We’d also appreciate any help in maintaining our other community resources, such as the Wiki pages.

Additionally, there’s a new Courtside Report providing an insight into what to expect from Season 1 in MyTEAM and MyCAREER. A trailer has also been released, which you can check out below. Stay tuned for our post-release coverage of NBA 2K24, as well as another great year of releases from our modding community!

Virtual Hardwood Stories Forum Spotlight

Virtual Hardwood Stories Forum Spotlight

Times change, and different content comes in and out of fashion. However, one section of the NLSC Forum that has maintained a dedicated following throughout the years is the Stories from the Virtual Hardwood board. This is where you can share stories of your franchise and career mode games with your fellow basketball gamers, and really indulge your creativity.

There are some great active threads in the Stories from the Virtual Hardwood section at the moment, and I’d like to take a moment to spotlight them. First of all, we have “The 2K10 & Beyond Project“, a story by jubba910. This tale not only spans multiple seasons but also multiple games, beginning with the 2010 campaign in NBA 2K10. jubba910 is now up to the 2018 season in NBA 2K18, and has produced a very interesting alternate history!

Next up we have “The Wrath of the Rose” by veteran of our story section, kibaxx7. This story winds back the clock to the 1970s, with the Portland Trail Blazers’ entry into the NBA. It’s a few years in now, and has likewise produced some fun alternate history with great presentation. The tale is being told using NBA 2K14 PC and the Ultimate Base Roster.

I’ll also plug my latest story thread here, “Ain’t gonna let nobody write it, but me”. It provides running updates on my NBA 2K14 MyCAREER on PlayStation 4, in between the yearly recaps I’ve been posting in Monday Tip-Off. I’m currently in my fourth season, and expect to have it finished by the time NBA 2K23 is released.

Other regularly-updated topics include the UBR Resim by Mavsfan_1991, A Fantasy World by yeahnah, and truefaith0826‘s 1995-1996 Season. Check them out, and feel free to join in the fun yourself! Quick updates are welcome in this topic, while suggestions for telling your virtual hardwood stories can be found here. We also conducted a series of interviews with long-time contributors to the stories section some years back. Additionally, some of the best stories that have now finished can be found in the NBA Live and NBA 2K Hall of Fame boards. A big thanks to everyone who keeps the stories section going!

The Friday Five: 5 Bizarre NLSC Forum Moments

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown. This week’s Five reflects upon five rather bizarre moments in the history of our Forum.

The current NLSC Forum has been around since 2002, and the original boards were active for a few years before that. As with any online community, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs, running gags and memes, highly contentious moments, and other fun times. When you’ve been around a community for a number of years, as I and a few others have been, there are moments where you mutter to yourself that you’re too old for this…stuff. Not only that, but looking at the drama that some people cause, you can’t help thinking that they’re also too old for that…stuff.

However, some moments are just too bizarre not to be enjoyable in a twisted kind of way. In some cases, they become part of the community’s collection of memes, or find themselves enshrined in the Hardwood Classics section of the Forum. It’s often said that everyone is brave behind a keyboard, and adopts a different persona online. Now, there is definitely some truth to that, but I also get the impression that some people are just as difficult in the real world as they are in cyberspace. With that in mind, I feel sorry for the people they interact with on a daily basis! Still, they have given us some amusingly bizarre moments to look back upon, as these examples demonstrate.

New Forum Rules Regarding Mods & Patreon

Forum Rules Updated with Patreon Policy

Please be advised that our Forum Rules have been amended with an official policy regarding Patreon. Our rule regarding charging for mods now reads as follows:

Charging money for mods and patches is not allowed. Beyond simply not being the “done thing” in our community, it also invites legal problems, as profiting off someone else’s intellectual property and likeness is illegal. As long as we’re not charging for updates, the developers are happy to look the other way (and sometimes even quietly support us) when it comes to modding.

Please note that while you are free to take the risk of charging for patches on your own site or blog, you may not promote it here with any links. Donation links, tip jars, and Patreons are acceptable, but releases cannot be held for ransom in demand for donations (thus indirectly charging for them). All Patreon content must also be made available publicly within a week; Patreon-exclusive releases cannot be posted here.

Further information on how Patreon releases must be handled has also been added:

Patreon is another service that you may use, and is a good platform to seek support for hosting larger mods. However, it must not be used to circumvent our rules against charging for mods. Early access via Patreon is allowed, but the mod must be made available publicly on the NLSC within a week of the Patreon release. If those conditions are adhered to, you are free to promote early access releases and your Patreon in general. Patreon-exclusive releases without a public release count as charging for mods and are not allowed. What you do with your Patreon is your business, but as far as our community and platform is concerned, you may not promote/link to any Patreon-exclusive releases. or your Patreon in general if you aren’t posting any public releases.

These rules are now in effect and apply to all future releases. We are implementing this policy in the interests of being fair to our community, and avoiding any problems with intellectual property. If you have any questions, please contact myself or another member of staff.

Monday Tip-Off: Hopping On The Banned Wagon

Monday Tip-Off: Hopping On The Banned Wagon

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games. This week, I’m tipping things off with a few insights into our approach to banning people in our community, as well as the potential fallout when users do get banned.

Many years ago, we used to have a public “Banned List” in the NLSC Forum. It was started and maintained for a few reasons. First of all, it let people know that someone had been banned, pre-emptively answering questions as to where they had gone. The second reason was to emphasise the rules that had been broken, as we also listed the reason that the person had been banned. And, because we were all a bit younger and less mature then, the third reason was the humiliation factor involved. In other words, act up, and you go on the naughty list for everyone else to see.

Because of the third reason in particular, I was generally uneasy with the idea, and so we eventually put the kibosh on the Banned List. I also feel that if someone is acting up so badly that we feel compelled to show them the door, they shouldn’t be glorified or given any further attention, and the list did offer some measure of notoriety. I still feel that way, which is why I don’t like to talk about people who have been banned, even when they post inflammatory remarks about the site, me, or other NLSC staff. It’s sometimes awfully tempting to respond though, even if it’s only in general terms. To that end, I’d like to talk a little about those who hop aboard the banned wagon.

NBA 2K20 Modding & Downloads Sections Now Open

NBA 2K20: Serge Ibaka

With 2K Day 2019 almost upon us, I’ve opened up the NBA 2K20 modding and Downloads sections in the NLSC Forum! Obviously there isn’t a lot of content there right now, but given how quickly our community works after a game is released, it shouldn’t be long before we see the first uploads.

If you’re after some quick links, here they are:

I’ve also added a portal for NBA 2K20, and of course, I invite everyone to join in the discussion here! I’m hoping we can get some good topics going this year related to gameplay, slider tweaks, and modes that we’re playing. As I’ve said before, we aim to be your one stop hub for all things basketball gaming!

A quick note about NBA 2K20 modding. While we’re currently still allowing ad links, they are becoming problematic and we may have to amend our policy. As our community gears up to mod this year’s game, I encourage everyone to make use of our hosting facilities, which allow mods to be readily and permanently available. For more information on how to upload files to the NLSC, check out this video tutorial that JaoSming put together a few years ago.

Spotlighting Our Stories Section; Join in the Fun!

Enter the Dragan is one of the most active Stories in the NLSC Forum

The Stories section in the NLSC Forum isn’t as popular as it once was, in part due to changing demographics and basketball gaming habits. However, there has been some renewed interest in sharing franchise and career mode stories in recent months. To that end, I’d like to spotlight some of the tales that are currently being told on the virtual hardwood.

  • NLSC 2K Pro-Am team member Valor has been running with an expansion franchise – the Chicago Sharks – in NBA 2K17. Currently in the second season, they’ve been able to make some noteworthy free agent signings.
  • Speaking of NBA 2K17 stories, Phil89 is running one titled “Enter the Dragan“. It features the Phoenix Suns, who are currently squaring off with the Chicago Bulls in the 2019 NBA Finals.
  • A rather unique NBA 2K14 story is being told by truefaith0826. Set in the 1996 season using a combination of Ultimate Base Roster and U R Basketball assets, it features some fantastic presentation including video recaps and artwork from NBA Live 96.
  • Speaking of throwback stories, Kevin is running an NBA 2K17 story currently set in the 1997 season. Notably, he’s using an expansion team: the Montreal Hyenas.
  • Jumping over to NBA Live 06, Breems is attempting to re-write history with the 2006 Washington Wizards. The story already features a noteworthy trade, and is approaching the All-Star Weekend.
  • We’ve seen some great NBA Live 10 stories over the years, and cavs4872 is looking to recapture that with a new tale featuring the Houston Rockets. A couple of offseason moves have been reversed, and Allen Iverson has ended up in an unexpected destination.
  • Contributor Dee4Three has taken a fantasy approach to an NBA 2K17 story, pitting historical teams against each other with injuries disabled. It’s resulting in some interesting match-ups to say the least.

With NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 on the horizon, I hope that we can see further activity in our Stories section. As our interviews with various members of the community hopefully demonstrate, a lot of people have had fun sharing their franchise and career experiences with their fellow basketball gamers over the years, and it’d be great to see that trend return.

Whether it’s through written recaps or video content, franchise or career modes, a new game or old, I invite everyone to join in the fun! In the meantime, be sure to check out the aforementioned stories, the other active topics, and of course, the Story Hall of Fame for both NBA Live and NBA 2K.

Current Site Issues & Workaround Links

NLSC Forum

We’re currently experiencing a few issues with accessibility around the NLSC. As explained in posts on our Facebook page and Twitter, these issues are the result of installing our SSL certificate. This is something we’ve needed to do for a while to keep up with web standards, and was essential to implement as soon as possible since as of July 2018, Google Chrome will start flagging sites that don’t use SSL as being unsafe.

While the NLSC is basically up and running, we’re still sorting out issues with redirects and subdomains. This means that old links aren’t properly redirecting to HTTPS yet (resulting in some missing images and the like), and forums.nba-live.com currently isn’t operational, meaning it can’t be used to access the Forum or Downloads section.

For the moment, you can use these links to access the Forum and Downloads section:

Browsing the main site, as well as the Wiki, should generally work as normal. As noted, old HTTP links may result in a few missing images until we get everything sorted out.

Thank you for your patience as we troubleshoot these issues. Hopefully everything will be working as normal very soon. Note that the aforementioned links will still work after we get everything back up and running as intended, but the plan is to use the subdomain as before. If you have any questions or encounter any other errors, please let me know.

UPDATE: The regular links are now working again. We’re still cleaning up a few issues with redirects and mixed content warnings, but generally speaking, everything is operational.

NBA Live 19 & NBA 2K19 Forums, Resources Added

NBA Live 19: Crossover in The Streets

As you may have noticed, over the weekend we added forums for NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19. With the preview season more or less underway, it seemed only appropriate to move discussion about this year’s games to their own sections in the NLSC Forum, rather than keep them in the NBA Live 18 and NBA 2K18 forums respectively.

I’ve also created the portals for each game here on the main site. You can find the NBA Live 19 subsite here, and the NBA 2K19 subsite here. The initial screenshots for NBA Live 19 have already been added to the game’s portal, and both subsites have links to all of the resources that are available so far. That includes articles in the NLSC Wiki; check out the NBA Live 19 article here, and the NBA 2K19 article here.

More details will be added throughout the preview season, so stay tuned to the NLSC for the latest news and information on this year’s games from EA Sports and 2K Sports. As always, I invite our community to help out with our Wiki resources, not only adding new info to the NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 articles as it becomes available, but also our other articles as well. With our new forums launched nice and early this year, we’re also hoping to get some good discussion going, so join in the conversation today!

NBA Live 19 & NBA 2K19 Wishlist Topics Open

Wishlist Threads Open Now

Please be advised that our Wishlist topics for NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19 are now open! For those of you who may be unfamiliar with our annual Wishlist – which we now compile for both NBA Live and NBA 2K – it’s an effort to collect constructive feedback on what we want to see in the next game. We prioritise the feedback according to what the community most wants to see added, fixed, and improved, and then send it along to the development teams at EA Sports and Visual Concepts.

The key to compiling a useful Wishlist is to identify the most important issues as concisely as possible, while also elaborating and being specific where necessary. In other words, saying that you want “better gameplay” isn’t particularly helpful, whereas explaining the changes you want to see for a better gameplay experience (without a long-winded rant) is feedback the developers can actually put to good use. The aim is to be clear and to the point, explaining what you want out of the next game without turning it into a 5000 word essay.

One suggestion is to post your top 15-20 suggestions for the game. Alternatively, you may choose to post your top 5-10 suggestions in different categories (gameplay, career modes, franchise modes, online, etc). As long as it’s constructive and comprehensive feedback, we’ll be able to reach some sort of consensus as a community, and provide the development teams at EA and VC with an idea of what we most want to see in NBA Live 19 and NBA 2K19.

Pre-production is obviously already underway on both titles, so we want to get our feedback in as soon as possible. As such, if you’ve got ideas and suggestions for this year’s games, start posting them now! I’ll be sure to post some reminders over the next few weeks, as well as a bulletin when we’ve officially submitted each Wishlist.

NBA Live 18 & NBA 2K18 Released Today

NBA Live 18 Demo: James Harden

The wait is over! The preview season is officially done, and a new season of basketball gaming has begun, with the official release of NBA Live 18 and the Early Tip-Off Weekend pre-order release of NBA 2K18. As I mentioned in yesterday’s bulletin, our modding community is already gearing up to do some great things with the PC version of NBA 2K18, and we’ll also be looking to create other fun original content based around both games.

Whether you’re playing NBA Live 18, NBA 2K18, or both games, I invite everyone to join us for what will hopefully be a fun season of basketball gaming over the next twelve months. In the wake of both games being released, I’d just like to spotlight a couple of key discussion topics in the NLSC Forum:

NBA Live 18

NBA 2K18

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve added new sections for NBA 2K18 to our Downloads database, so if you want to get a head start on modding, there’s already a place to upload your work. Once again, I hope that our community makes good use of our upload facilities this year.

Speaking of making good use of our facilities, I’m also hoping to see lots of great discussion about NBA Live 18 and NBA 2K18 in the Forum. Whether it’s mods, impressions, sliders, gameplay tips and advice, tales about the mode you’re playing, reactions to the in-game stories, or anything else about the games, don’t be shy. Join in the conversation today!

Rest assured that plenty of great mods and engaging original content are in the pipeline, so be sure to keep it locked to the NLSC throughout the 2018 basketball gaming season!

NBA 2K18 Modding Forums & Downloads Sections Added

NBA 2K18 Cover

With the imminent release of NBA 2K18, it’s come time to add a few more sections to our Forum and Downloads database.

As we gear up for another season of creating great updates for the latest NBA 2K game, I’ve added a Modding section to the NBA 2K18 forums. That’s the place to post all releases, previews, requests, and any other topics related to modding the game. I’ve also prepared our Tutorials & FAQs section, where we’ll be compiling modding guides and other resources for NBA 2K18. Please note that the NBA 2K17 forums have now been moved to the Older Games section.

I’ve also added a new section to our Downloads database, so that we have a place to upload and list mods for NBA 2K18. This year we’re bringing back the Rosters section, so that modders can link to a release thread containing information about how to get their rosters via the in-game sharing function, as well as links to any required art packs. Hopefully, it won’t be long before we start seeing the first releases for this year’s game!

Since we are on the cusp of a new modding season, I would like to encourage modders to make use of our free upload facilities. I realise there are reasons why you may prefer to host files elsewhere and simply add them to our Downloads section via the external link option, but in the past couple of years, we’ve had to remove a lot of files due to broken links after only a few months. Please consider hosting or mirroring your files on the NLSC, or at least ensuring that your host of choice does not routinely remove uploads.

In addition to all the mods that our community creates, we’ll also be covering NBA 2K18 through our original content, including Monday Tip-Off, The Friday Five, YouTube videos, and of course, the NLSC Podcast. We’ll naturally be doing the same for NBA Live 18, so keep it locked to the NLSC for all your basketball gaming needs!

Changes to Modding Sections in the NLSC Forum

NLSC Forum

As announced in the NLSC Forum last week, a few changes have been made to our modding sections, effective as of today. Those changes are as follows:

  • Contributors will have access to create new topics in the Tutorials section.
  • The individual Releases & Previews sections will be renamed Modding, and all modding-related discussions – releases, previews, requests, help and development – will be welcome there.
  • The Tutorials & FAQ sections will remain separate to avoid their respective Modding sections getting cluttered by pinned topics, and ensure those resources are easier to find.

The first change is intended to make it easier for our Contributors to add to the various Tutorials & FAQs subsections, as they will not have to wait for their newly created topic to be moved by a moderator. All members are of course welcome to contribute resources which will then be moved to the Tutorials & FAQs sections as soon as possible, but Contributors will be able to post there directly.

We’ve decided to consolidate all modding discussion into central subsections as the old practice of having separate sections for requests, help, and mod releases and previews proved to be overkill, leading to unused and redundant sections. The more recent solution of simply having Releases & Previews sections with requests and help belonging in the main discussion section was unclear, and therefore somewhat confusing. These consolidated modding sections are intended to eliminate that confusion, as well as reduce the likelihood of off-topic posts and posts going unanswered.

If you have any questions or concerns about this revamp to the NLSC Forum, please let me know, and I’ll try to provide further clarification. As I mentioned in the Forum thread, we may end up moving the Tutorials & FAQs subsections so that they’re under the Modding sections, in order to make them more visible and easily accessible directly from those sections.

Monday Tip-Off: You’ve Said That Already, We Get It

Kyrie Irving dribbles the basketball in NBA 2K17

We’re at midcourt, and the ball is about to go up…it’s Monday Tip-Off! Start your week here at the NLSC with a feature that’s dedicated to opinions, commentary, and other fun stuff related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games.

I have a revelation that’ll probably make a lot of music fans in our community chuckle. My favourite band is the Barenaked Ladies. What can I say? I was a teenager in the late 90s, “One Week” was a hit, and to this day, I like the stuff they’re putting out. Anyway, on the same album as “One Week” was another song that charted: “It’s All Been Done“. The lyrics deconstruct and critique clichéd romantic gestures, framed in the context of a relationship that spans across reincarnation (or possibly immortality), literally or metaphorically depending on your interpretation. Its conclusion is right there in the title: it’s all been done.

What’s the point I’m ham-fistedly trying to get at here? Well, when a community or fandom has been around for a while, long-time members are bound to suffer a touch of déjà vu when certain topics arise. The current NLSC Forum has been open since November 2002, so naturally there are going to be some recurring topics. That’s to be expected, and to be fair, they’re often given a new spin. Unfortunately, some of us do get carried away when it comes to certain subjects, and if we’ve been around for a while, chances are other people have grown weary of our beating the same drum over and over again. To borrow BnL’s lyrics, it’s all been done – or rather, said – before.

NBA 2K17 Forum Subsections & Download Sections Added

NBA 2K17: Paul George

We’re in the midst of the Early Tip-Off Weekend for NBA 2K17, and as you can see in the game’s main discussion area in the NLSC Forum, a lot of people already have it. We’ve also been discussing plans and techniques for modding – before the game was even released, in fact – and now that we have our hands on NBA 2K17, I’ve added a new section in our Downloads database for it. As always, we encourage you to make use of our upload facilities!

Please note that I have not created a section for NBA 2K17 roster updates. At this time, the only way to share rosters in the legal version of the game is through the in-game Roster Creator’s sharing functions, so there’s no call for a Rosters section in our Downloads database. Please note that our rules regarding pirated games remain unchanged: no discussing them, no sharing files for them, no requesting download links or any help with them. It’s grounds for a permanent ban, as clearly stated in our Forum Rules. Be advised that we will enforce our rules whether or not you take the time to read them, so we suggest that you give them a look!

If you’re looking for a place to preview and release any mods for NBA 2K17, then the newly created Releases & Previews section is for you. We also have a Tutorials & FAQs section, which we’ll fill with resources as they’re created. As usual, the ability to create new threads in that section is restricted to NLSC staff, to avoid clutter and off-topic posts. If you want to contribute a resource, please post it in the main discussion area, or the Releases & Previews section, and one of us will move it to the Tutorials & FAQs section as soon as possible.

Be sure to join in all of the discussion that’s taking place in the NBA 2K17 section of the Forum! We’re hoping to see everyone sharing their experiences and knowledge this year, as we continue striving to be the definitive resource and destination for basketball gaming. We’re also looking to create some fun and informative original content for NBA 2K17 over the next year, so stay tuned for that, and all the great works from our modding community!
