NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament Elite 8 Results

NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament Elite 8 Results

The real 2023 NCAA Tournament will shortly have its Final Four, but we’re already there on the virtual hardwood! After tipping off a couple of weeks ago, the Elite 8 has concluded in our NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament, which is being hosted by Dee and powered by Parsec.

Unfortunately, as we noted on last week’s NLSC Podcast, the quality of my connection forced me to withdraw from our NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament. However, sevin0seven was fortunately willing and able to take my place, and so the tournament progressed without any further interruptions.

Dee has been streaming all of the games on his YouTube channel, and then putting together highlight reels for the NLSC’s channel. I’ve posted them all below, along with the updated brackets. The Final Four will be tipping off soon, so stay tuned for more action!

A big thanks to everyone who is participating in the tournament, and tuning in to watch the games and highlights! Once again, the winner of the tournament will receive a $20 Steam gift card. For more information on how to connect and play games using Parsec, check out this tutorial that Dee put together. Feel free to share your thoughts on the tournament in the comments, as well as join in the discussion here in the Forum, or on our Discord. Also be sure to hit us up with any suggestions of other games you’d like to see us run tournaments with in the future!

NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament Tips Off This Weekend

It may be March Modness, but we’re also in the mood to celebrate March Madness! As Dee has announced on Twitter, he’s hosting an NLSC NCAA Basketball 10 Tournament over Parsec, which is set to tip off this weekend. The games begin on March 11th, with an Elite 8 bracket. I’ll be participating in this tournament, along with Stildo33, KingJMASE, jrolling2003, FathomDanny, BrentLane, TecmoBowlGGL, and Mole.

Like the real NCAA tournament, the games are single elimination. We’ll be playing two 12-minute halves, on the default difficulty setting. The winner will receive a $20 Steam gift card, courtesy of Dee. You can of course expect to see highlights of the games on our YouTube channel. Previous NLSC Tournaments have been a blast for all of the participants, full of goodwill, competitive spirit, and several spectacular moments on the virtual hardwood. I have no doubt that this tournament will be just as fun for everyone.

Check out the full brackets below! You can keep up to date with the results and highlight reels here in the Forum. While you’re waiting for the Tournament to tip off, check out my NCAA Basketball 10 retrospective for Wayback Wednesday that I posted back in 2021. Also hit us up with any suggestions for games that you’d like to see us run tournaments with in the future. For more information on how to connect and play basketball games (or indeed, anything) using Parsec, check out this tutorial that Dee put together.

Wayback Wednesday: NCAA Basketball Retrospective

Wayback Wednesday: NCAA Basketball Retrospective

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, I’m taking a look back at NCAA Basketball for the Super Nintendo.

With Baylor’s victory and another March Madness in the books, I’m taking a look back at one final college basketball game. It’s a game that I’ve covered twice before in Wayback Wednesday, albeit under two different titles: World League Basketball, and Super Dunk Shot. As I mentioned in those features, this 1992 release developed by Sculptured Software changed its name and content according to the region it was released in. To that end, depending on whether you’re in North America, a PAL region, or Japan, you’ll be nostalgic for a different version of the same game.

Since Australia is a PAL region, the version of the game that I grew up with was World League Basketball. Now that I’ve picked up a Universal Adapter for my Super Nintendo, I’ve been able to collect Super Dunk Shot and NCAA Basketball, and play them on my PAL hardware. Obviously it’s a very familiar experience in terms of gameplay, but the different teams and format make it a real novelty to play the other versions. On top of that, NCAA Basketball holds up as one of the best college hoops titles of its era. Let’s take a look back…way back…

Wayback Wednesday: NCAA Basketball 09 Retrospective

Wayback Wednesday: NCAA Basketball 09 Retrospective

This is Wayback Wednesday, your midweek blast from the past! In this feature, we dig into the archives, look back at the history of basketball gaming, and indulge in some nostalgia. Check in every Wednesday for retrospectives and other features on older versions of NBA Live, NBA 2K, and old school basketball video games in general. You’ll also find old NLSC editorials re-published with added commentary, and other flashback content. This week, I’m taking a look back at NCAA Basketball 09.

As I mentioned when I looked back at NCAA March Madness 08, college basketball games were something that I wasn’t able to enjoy for many years. Due to an inability to secure international likeness rights for the NCAA, those titles were only released in North America. Universal adapters, certain cheat devices, and modded consoles were – for the most part- the only way we could play those NTSC releases in PAL regions. The PlayStation 3 was region free however, and after a friend gifted me one, I’ve been able to import a handful of NTSC games, including college basketball titles.

My collection currently includes the aforementioned NCAA March Madness 08, as well as the game I’m looking back at today: its sequel, NCAA Basketball 09. I also own NCAA Basketball 10, and 2K Sports’ College Hoops 2K7 and College Hoops 2K8. I’ll be getting to those in due course, but for now, let’s look at the 2009 season release from EA Sports. The series rebranded itself to NCAA Basketball, but did the 09 edition succeed in being more than just a mere name change? Let’s take a look back…way back…

NLSC Podcast #349: The Quest for a Next Gen Console

NLSC Podcast Logo

Episode #349 of the NLSC Podcast is out now! Derek (aka Dee4Three) and I are your hosts for this week’s show.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are out, and so is NBA 2K21 Next Gen! Unfortunately neither of us are able to play the game yet, but one of us has had some luck in our quest for a Next Gen console. In the meantime, we discuss the gameplay videos we’ve seen, impressions from the community, and an aspect of the new MyNBA mode that isn’t quite what we were expecting. Circling back to last week’s show, we answer a question about there still being room for improvement on this generation. We’re also intrigued by EA Sports expanding their portfolio, and what it might mean for college basketball games. In this week’s mailbag, we discuss the style of play in the NBA 2K League and its impact on online play, as well as the issue of various historical players being underutilised outside of MyTEAM.

What’s your take on this week’s conversation? Sound off in the comments section below, or join in the discussion here in the Forum! Additionally, feel free to hit us up with any feedback on the episode, as well as mailbag questions and topic suggestions for future episodes. For more information on the NLSC Podcast including episode guides, check out this page in our Wiki. The show also comes out on our YouTube channel, so be sure to subscribe for future episodes and other video content.

The Friday Five: 5 New Basketball Games I’d Like to See

The Friday Five

Welcome to this week’s edition of The Friday Five! The Friday Five is a feature that I post every Friday in which I give my thoughts on a topic that’s related to NBA Live, NBA 2K, and other basketball video games, as well as the real NBA, and other areas of interest to our community. The feature is presented as either a list of five items, or in the form of a Top 5 countdown. This week’s Five is a list of five new basketball games that I’d like to see developed in the future.

Happy 2K Day everyone! NBA 2K20 is out today, which means a lot of gamers in our community will be spending time with it this weekend; I know I will be! While I hope I’ll enjoy NBA 2K20 as much as I did NBA 2K19, I’m also hoping that it won’t be the only release this year. We’re still waiting on any information about NBA Live 20, and the future of the NBA Live series. A release is slated for next quarter and various reps have said that EA Sports aren’t pulling the plug, so we can only wait and see what happens.

I still firmly believe that we need at least two viable choices when it comes to the sim-oriented NBA games on the market. Ideally, we’d also have some more arcade games and other titles to choose from, too. Obviously a lot of people are getting the virtual basketball experience they crave from NBA 2K, but competition, alternatives, and different takes on the sport are important to have. Beyond seeing NBA Live catch up to NBA 2K and be competitive again, there are other ideas for basketball games that I’d like to see come to fruition. Some of these ideas are easier said than done when you take licensing into account, but I’m throwing them out there anyway.
